April has finally arrived, and maybe — just maybe, so has spring. Just the thought of warmer weather gets us in the mood for some good patio/rooftop party music, and today Alma Tropicália, DC’s Brazilian tropicália-tribute group, has stepped up to the plate with a fresh track certain to get things moving. Taken from their outstanding 2012 debut EP (if you haven’t already, pick it up today), “Irene” gets an energetic rework from Philly’s Dave Clayton (of Clayton & Fulcrum fame). Maintaining the forró-meets-psychedilc rock sensibilities of the original, the remix features a dynamic break-beat and some clever use of the original’s vocals resulting in a memorizing funky house number. Good vibes all around on this one –make it a part of your life today!

DC is a funk town. There’s just no denying it. Enter The Good Thing, a new local group set to make a huge splash in our rich scene. Combining elements of funk, rock, blues, and soul, this upstart group comprised of bassist/lead vocalist Kim Jade Fry (formerly of “Heir of the Dog”), Jon Modell (drummer for Fort Knox Five and Nappy Riddem), Greg Boyer (trombone for Chuck Brown Band and Prince’s band) and local sax virtuoso Elijah Balbed (The Funk Ark, Bohemian Caverns Orchestra), The Good Thing’s party-rocking pedigree cannot be denied. To hear what we’re talking about, check out their track “What Can I Do?” below. The tune is also available for free download at the link below the player.
