Alma Tropicália – Irene (Dave Clayton Remix)

April has finally arrived, and maybe — just maybe, so has spring. Just the thought of warmer weather gets us in the mood for some good patio/rooftop party music, and today Alma Tropicália, DC’s Brazilian tropicália-tribute group, has stepped up to the plate with a fresh track certain to get things moving. Taken from their outstanding 2012 debut EP (if you haven’t already, pick it up today), “Irene” gets an energetic rework from Philly’s Dave Clayton (of Clayton & Fulcrum fame). Maintaining the forró-meets-psychedilc rock sensibilities of the original, the remix features a dynamic break-beat and some clever use of the original’s vocals resulting in a memorizing funky house number. Good vibes all around on this one –make it a part of your life today!

UD Recommends: 01:20:13: Funk 4 Peace Ball @ U Street Music Hall

Unless you’ve been living under a rock (a really big, remote rock), you know that Monday is kind of a big day in the DC area. Naturally, the masters of holiday weekend extravaganzas, Fort Knox Recordings, take it to the next level with the Funk 4 Peace Ball on Sunday, January 20th, at U Street Music Hall. DJ Nu-Mark of Jurassic Five tops the bill with support from hometown heroes Fort Knox Five, Empresarios, All Good Funk Alliance, Nappy Riddem, Qdup Foundation, and Brothers Brau. DC Brau drink specials will be in full effect as well, so UHall is definitely the place to be on Sunday night. Grab your advance tickets here, this one’s gonna get rowdy! Continue reading
